We are raising money for school children in Haiti and Africa (Via Actionaid)

Uganda: safe water for school children

Fact: Children uprooted from their village in Kitemba, western Uganda, have no safe water supply at school, and classrooms are extremely overcrowded.

Aim: To provide safe water for the Kitemba primary school and community by the sinking of two vital boreholes. We will also construct three extra classroom blocks at the school.

  • £20 could provide eight children with access to safe, clean water
  • £300 could buy desks and chairs for two classrooms
  • £1,500 could build toilet facilities to improve water and sanitation facilities for pupils at the school.

Haiti: quality education for poor, rural children

Fact: Over 50 per cent of children in Haiti don’t go to school – many grow up illiterate and turn to begging for an income.

Aim: To provide education in one of Haiti’s most deprived areas, Lascahobas, where only 37 per cent of children attend school.

  • £20 could pay for school books for one child for a whole year
  • £40 could provide desks and chairs, meaning children no longer have to sit on the classroom floor
  • £1,500 could build toilet facilities to improve water and sanitation facilities for pupils at the school
  • £2,919 could construct a well for the school, providing safe water for 300.
